This seminar offers an overview of the intersection between Adventism and Fundamentalism in the 1920s in the USA and shows that Adventism was influenced by verbal inspiration, a key fundamentalist belief.

In order to understand the influence of Fundamentalism upon the Adventist view of inspiration in the 1920s, we will first look at the context for the rise of the fundamentalist movement. Next, we will explore the key beliefs of fundamentalism, emphasizing the centrality of verbal inspiration. Thirdly, we will observe the interactions between Adventism and Fundamentalism in the 1920s. Lastly, we will indicate the struggles of Adventism with verbal inspiration in the 1920s and the following decades, pointing out some of the implications of this struggle for current debates in biblical interpretation.
