This seminar provides a diachronic survey of various methods of biblical interpretation across the patristic, medieval, Reformation, modern, and postmodern eras.

Through a series of brief presentations, we will explore methods of biblical interpretation chronologically, emphasizing the presuppositions behind each methodology and their implications for understanding the meaning of the text. Key figures analyzed will include Philo of Alexandria, Origen, Theodore of Mopsuestia, Augustine, Gregory the Great, Thomas Aquinas, Hugh of St. Victor, Wilhelm Dilthey, Friedrich Schleiermacher, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Martin Heidegger, and Hans-Georg Gadamer.

This series will provide valuable perspectives on the complexities of biblical interpretation, enabling participants to approach the Scriptures with greater care and humility, as well as renewed respect and interest in the inspired writings.
