This seminar explains Plato’s view of Reality and of the Forms and describes the difference between knowledge and opinion in his epistemology.
Plato’s view on reality is the framework in which Western rationality has been operating for over two millennia. This framework has had a profound impact on epistemology, the distinction between reality and appearance being reflected in the knowledge-opinion dichotomy still ingrained in our thinking today. This seminar helps us understand the roots of Plato’s thought and his main arguments in constructing a theory about the nature of reality and enables us to evaluate his views against the biblical macronarrative.
